The weekly journal of the Central Association (CV), first published in 1922, had the largest circulation of German Jewish newspapers. It expressed various voices in the German Jewish Liberal camp. In the first few months of Nazi rule, some of its contributors continued to call for struggle on behalf of the heritage of liberalism and the Emancipation; several continued to cling to German patriotism. Gradually, the paper showed growing acknowledgement of German Jewry's new situation and the need to re-deploy to meet its challenges. The C.V Zeitung was shut down in late 1938 by order of the Nazis.
